Gateway’s hope: Smaller is better: While some industry watchers are ready to write Gateway’s obituary, founder Ted Waitt hopes to write a bright, new chapter in the folksy PC maker’s history. Under Waitt’s vision, Gateway will be more than just a PC maker: It will serve as the IT department for the legions of consumers and small businesses that can’t afford a chief information officer to help them manage their computers. My spin: Gateway’s a great company and I love their PC’s (although I buy Dell for the most part). Can Ted’s new strategy “turn” Gateway around…will smaller be better for Gateway OR will Dell’s relentless price war push Gateway to the edge? BTW – how will Gateway service small businesses – partnering with VARs or in house technicians?
