Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday said it will launch the first major new product from its small business unit later this year as the software giant jumps into the fast-growing market for customer service automation.
My spin:MS is launching the next phase in its software war. The business application battle is over – Word, Excel and etc dominate. The next stage is harnessing the next as a business tool – ACCPAC, Intuit, PeachTree, ICode, ACCWARE and a host of other providers are going to be fighting to serve the small business market. None of them have the marketing dollars of MS – but David did beat Goliath didn’t he. And also – these smaller companies don’t have to beat MS they can just keep loyal customers and produce innovative products.
