My spin: First of all, calling the the “Internet” has NOT SUDDENTLY arrived. People have been doing it for years. Many years ago, it was not that high quality and only used by geeks on cheap PC microphones. However, increasingly companies are placing more and more phone calls via the Internet at a quality consumers and business users can use. In addition, companies such as Cisco, 3COM, and others are using the Internet protocol and enabling companies to make free, non toll calls via their own company private networks.
USA Today News Clip: Mark Jaffe of St. Louis recently threw caution to the wind and ditched his trusty SBC Communications local phone service in favor of an offering from an Internet phone start-up called Vonage(full story)
