My spin: There’s tools one can use to help manage the updating of software. However, often times it is a laborious and quite manual process. BUT IMPORTANT. Each hole that Microsoft announces and many more I’m sure that are not announced must be plugged with a security patch. There’s critical security notices and those not so critical – take care of the critical ones and the ones that directly apply to you first.
