Lindows.com today launched LindowsOS Laptop Edition, the first Linux-based operating system tailored specifically for laptops. LindowsOS Laptop Edition includes improved power management, high compatibility with WiFi cards, and the ability to take advantage of keyboard shortcuts to browsers and email programs.
LindowsOS Laptop Edition (www.lindows.com/laptop) greatly improves power management and extends battery life with the ability to put a laptop to “sleep”. Closing the laptop cover or simply selecting “Sleep” from a popup battery menu will save all work in progress and power down the laptop to minimize battery usage; pressing the power button restores the computer to its pre-sleep state.
LindowsOS Laptop Edition also features a high level of compatibility with a wide range of WiFi cards, found increasingly in businesses, schools, and other public areas. This specialized version of Desktop Linux for laptops has been designed to require only minimal configuration whenever a WiFi card is inserted, limited to two steps to switch from an Ethernet connection to a wireless.
My spin: I’ve got to hand it to Lindows.com – they are trying. But I THINK – fighting a losing battle.
