My spin:For those of you aggressively using email as a marketing tool, even for those of you just doing simple email newsletters, it’s important that you at least read over the new federal spam rules (and state rules by the way). I’m sure if you are doing your email marketing ethically right you have little or nothing to be worried about. But it’s a good idea to have a look and know what the rules and regs are.
News Clip: News Day: Despite grumbling from anti-spam hard-liners, President George W. Bush yesterday signed the Can-Spam Act into law, laying down what the administration called the first national “rules of the road” for the junk-mail-clogged information superhighway.
The bill, which takes effect Jan. 1, requires that companies sending bulk commercial e-mail provide a means for recipients to opt-out of receiving it, clearly label pornographic spam and supply valid sender information so messages can be traced.
