Listen, Google is offering users a CHOICE. They can use the new gmail service or not. Very simple. Sure, maybe Google’s new service has an “invasion of privacy” smell to it.
However, there is choice and users can use the new Google email service with their eyes wide open.
Yahoo News said Google Inc. hails its new e-mail service as a breakthrough in online communication, but consumer watchdogs are attacking it as a creepy invasion of privacy that threatens to set a troubling precedent.
Although Google’s free “Gmail” service isn’t even available yet, critics already are pressuring the popular search engine maker to drop its plans to electronically scan e-mail content so it can distribute relevant ads alongside incoming messages. (full story)
