Earlier this month, Symantec’s Certified Technical Specialist, Small Business Security program, launched. This program includes online and print training materials as well as certification testing specifically designed for professionals responsible for planning, installing, configuring, and managing Symantec antivirus, antispam, antispyware, and firewall solutions in small business environments.
Large businesses can hire VERY expensive security consultants to help them harden the security of their networks and overall IT environment, but often times small businesses can only afford to work with their local IT consultant who MIGHT not be specialized in security.
By working with a certified technical specialist you can be more assured that the person working with you knows a lot more about security issues than the general consultant / solution provider.
Interestingly enough, Microsoft also has a certified designation for solution providers focused on the small business market – Microsoft Small Business Specialists
Graeme Johnston, Senior Director of Sales Enablement Services at Symantec said that Symantec recognized changes taking place in the small business market and that there was a need for specialized security as small businesses were at the greatest risk. In addition Symantec wanted a way to better help its partners and small businesses find each other by enabling the small business owner to seek out someone who is first and foremost a true security expert but also well versed in integrating Symantec’s line of security
Certification Serves as Differentiator for Small Business Solution Providers
The Symantec Certified Technical Specialist, Small Business Security certification designates Symantec partners who have demonstrated in-depth product knowledge and implementation proficiency with Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Security. The associated training materials cover exam objectives, sample questions, and product documentation and are available online to registered Symantec partners via Symantec¬?s PartnerNet and the Partner Learning Center, along with other materials designed to help partners better support small businesses information security needs. The new certification will help Symantec partners further establish their role as trusted and valued advisors within the small business market, helping partners establish deeper and longer-term customer relationships.
