Fabrik Inc announced a new line of external storage devices (with an online backup service), SimpleTech SimpleDrive. The design of the drives is by Pininfarina, the Italian firm that has been the primary designer of Ferraris and other cutting-edge products and automobiles for more than half a century.
The SimpleDrive desktop solution enables you to ensure your computer(s) have back up and restore capabilities. The devices come preloaded with One-Click backup software so you can protect selected files or the entire content stored on your computer with a single click, or automatically, providing the peace of mind in knowing that your digital world is safe and protected.
The included software provides step-by-step wizards for hassle-free file restoring, and makes it simple to create and burn CDs and DVDs to take your music, photos, videos or files with you on the road. A built-in light ring acts as a capacity meter for quick viewing of disk space utilization.
I’ve been using Maxtor’s One Touch Drive Mini III for a few months, it works quite well. However, for some reason, however, it won’t back up an application directory under c:\documents and settings. Fabrik’s announcement, the design part, also reminds me of Seagate’s Free Agent line of storage devices. They look good and some of drives have built in online storage solutions.
All SimpleDrive desktop purchases include a free 2GB myfabrik.com online account to store, organize, embed and share your personal or professional content online. With the myfabrik.com service, you have the freedom to share multimedia content and other digital files with individuals or groups either privately via email or publicly via your own “easy-to-create” personal Web page.
The color and storage sizes include fire red (160GB), pearl white (250GB), sapphire (320GB), onyx (500GB) and charcoal gray (750GB and 1TB).
