Let’s be honest. As a customer, I’m never thrilled to get voicemail instead of a live person. As a business owner, it’s unavoidable that some of my incoming calls will be answered by voicemail. particularly if I am out of the office.
There is a new free service for mobile phones called YouMail that lets you customize your voicemail greetings for different callers. Just as you might not want your most important client to hear the same ringtone that you use for your friends, you may like to have different voicemail greetings for different callers. YouMail allows you to record custom greetings (or choose from a prerecorded selection) and assign them to your contacts.
While it’s not a full-featured virtual phone system like GotVMail or RingCentral, YouMail could be handy for managing callers trying to reach your cell phone. For example you might have an out-of-office message to most callers when you’re away, but want important contacts to hear a recording giving an emergency number where you can be reached.
