I had the pleasure of attending an event from Taste of Technology Business Series: Using Content and Creativity to Grow Your Business on April 20, 2011. The panel of speakers included Jon Gelberg of Blue Fountain Media, Arthur Germain of Communication Strategy Group, and Derrick Guest of Griot’s Roll Film Production and Services.
Each of these speakers had insightful things to say about the content to build your business from their area of expertise.
Jon Gelberg spoke about the importance of content. While most people get caught up in the marketing aspect of their campaign, Jon invites us to begin our marketing strategy with content. He fights the old cliche of “content is king” with “quality content is gold.” Jon’s presentation on “A case for content” was a great walk-through of how knowing yourself as an expert is not enough but how you can relay your expertise through your website and media outreach. Jon emphasized that quality content wins at the end of the day. Well written content projects your online brand image as well as yourself in a better light. Without good content, all marketing efforts don’t really lift off the ground!
Arthur Germain’s presentation was on brand storytelling and how it enhances your company’s marketing campaigns. Arthur takes away the cliches of marketing by putting a creative perspective to a company’s brand. Instead of just broadcasting the message and mission statement of the company, Arthur gives the groundwork of how to sculpt the brand into a story. Arthur invites us to look at each of the social media tools as a way to tell our story in an audio, visual, and textual way. Here is a taste of some of Arthur’s work in this ebook.
Derrick Guest’s presentation was on using video to market a company’s brand. Derrick captured the importance of video blogging as a better humanized relationship between customers and the company. Derrick expanded on how such video production allows for the company brand to offer comfort, trust and loyalty to the customers. Derrick explained the most important thing about video in marketing: it allows for selling without selling. While entrepreneurs get caught up in building a client base and focusing on capital, Derrick invites business owners to focus on the following:
- Focus on the brand identity
- Concentrate on the Unique Selling Point
- Portray your unique problem solving skills
Derrick offered that once business owners can focus on the above, all other aspects of the marketing strategies fall into place. Video allows entrepreneurs to take their brand to another level.
The above were just a few insights offered by these amazing panelists at the Taste of Technology Series. The attendees enjoyed having a Q & A session with each panelist, and were able to mingle with them afterwards.
The biggest take away I had from attending the Taste of Technology Series is that while business owners get caught up in trying to learn everything by themselves online, these in-person events with experts invites for better mindsets for their business strategies. Not to mention, the time investment you make to sit in these events and talk with the experts, allows for more immediate work productivity and efficiency afterwards. I’m looking forward to more events and inviting others to come.
