As you think about your social media strategy give your customers a reason to follow you (or at least add you to a Twitter list). Instead of implicitly suggesting they follow you to get spammed – invite them to follow you to engage with you between purchases, advises Chris.
I’ve been wildly impressed with companies who offer tech support through Twitter. At first I thought it was silly, but for some reason while email is slow and the telephone has painfully long hold times, many companies respond quickly to Twitter cries for help.

Encourage your customers to follow you not for YOU self interest but for THEIR interest.
