Survey Results: Social Media, Technology Spending, Hiring Plans

check boxHere are the third set of survey results, this time covering your plans on social media, technology spending, and hiring/recruiting. Now, that we’re caught up with compiling and analyzing poll results, we can be more frequent in reporting the results of these surveys. If you’re unaware where these surveys are coming from, they can be found on the right hand side of the Smallbiztechnology.com page. We have a new survey question every week, so be sure to check back every for the new question.

Social Media Poll

Which social media platforms does your business use (don’t include anything that you use, but not your business)?

Facebook – 100%

Twitter – 87%

LinkedIn – 80%

Foursquare – 13%

YouTube – 53%

Reddit – 0%

Flickr – 13%

A blogging platform like WordPress or Blogger – 40%

Results Analysis: That 13 percent other is bothersome, since there’s no way to figure out what it could mean (unless, of course, you comment). The polling program we use doesn’t allow for a combination of set polling questions and fill-in-the-blank polling questions. However, these results do tell us that we need to do more coverage of the other social media sites, such as YouTube, LinkedIn, Flickr, and Foursquare. We’ll make sure to do that.

 

Technology Spending Survey

Are you planning on purchasing new, or additional, technology for your business this year? If so, one what?

Cloud-based services – 33%

Social Media and online advertising – 44%

Notebooks, tablets or computers -44%

I’ve already made my technology purchases for year – 11%

No, I’m not planning on spending on technology this year – 11%

Results Analysis: We try to do our best to gauge trends at Smallbiztechnology.com, and by asking what our readers will be spending our money on, we can provide content that helps our readers make good buying decisions. It seems that a majority of our readers will still be making purchases throughout the rest of 2011, so we’ll do our best to cover new product launches in our Tech Thursday column and to offer reviews and options on the technology on which you’ll be spending your money.

 

Hiring Plans Survey

What are your hiring plans for the rest of 2011?

 

I haven’t hired anyone new this year, with no plans to hire for the rest of 2011. – 33%

I have already hired who I needed, with no plans to hire anyone else for the rest of the year. – 17%

I’m still unsure about my hiring needs. – 17%

I have yet to hire someone this year, but I do have plans to hire at least one person by the end of the year. – 8%

I’ve already hired at least one person this year, with plans on hiring at least one more person. – 25%

Results Analysis: So far, we’ve had an article about using social media for recruiting, as well as an article on a new recruiting tool for small businesses. It seems that more of our readers are not hiring anyone versus those who are hiring or planning to hire. We were planning a lot more hiring articles in the future, but, perhaps its best that we tone it down and we use that publishing space for other topics.
