Tips and Tricks on using YouTube for Small Business.

In the past few years, YouTube has gained immense popularity and it is now becoming a household name with over 490 million unique users worldwide per month! (Source: Royal Pingdom). YouTube is now everywhere, you’ll see it on your computer, on your smart phone and now it’s even incorporated into smart televisions!

Many would consider YouTube as a tool to share amateur videos, but that’s not where the line ends! Over the years, YouTube has gained the reputation of becoming an effective business tool as well.

There are many ways to use YouTube for your small business. I’ll share a step-by-step mini tutorial to get you going.

Official Presence:

The first thing to do is to have an official presence for your company and to do that you’ll need a YouTube channel. So go ahead, choose a decent username (preferably your Business Name) for your channel. You now have your very own channel on YouTube.

Upload Some Decent and Relevant Video Content:

Now that you have a channel, you’ll need some relevant visual content for it. So, go ahead market your business with some exciting video content. Of course, if you don’t yet have any video content of your own, you’re going to need to do that first.

Top Tip: Users tend to lose interest if the videos are too long, so keep them short and to the point.

Drive Traffic to Your Channel:

This is the most important part of the whole process and it will require some SEO and Marketing techniques. Your videos won’t be highly ranked in search results unless you follow the proper SEO techniques. Don’t worry; I’ll guide you through the basic process 🙂

SEO Tips:

1: Use the most relevant Keywords for your business.

2: Use the best possible Title for your video.

3: Keep the Description of your video short and relevant (Max 27 characters).

4: Choose an attractive Thumbnail for your video.

Marketing Tips:

1: Market your channel and videos on your business website.

2: Share your content on social media websites.

Organizing Your Videos:

It is always good to organize your content and to do so, use the playlist feature to your advantage. Organize your videos into different playlists based on relevance, so your users can easily find what they are looking for.


The aforementioned points are basic but very effective, if followed properly.

    I think the key in creating a successful video is by going viral (funny) something people want to watch. Besides creating a short video people can make educational (product description) video.
    YouTube has come a long way. You can now edit your videos, it is probably limiting but it’s a start!
