New Survey Indicates Reducing Costs, Planning for Growth Top Priorities for SMBs

New Subscribers to 8×8 Cloud VoIP Services Say Cost Savings, Features and Scalability Played a Key Role in Selection

SUNNYVALE, Calif., — Despite the continuing tough economic climate, a new survey conducted by VoIP telephone and cloud communications provider 8×8, Inc. (Nasdaq:EGHT) indicates that small- to mid-size businesses continue to plan for future growth but are acutely more aware of the need to reduce costs than they have been in the past.

Conducted to identify the reasons behind the higher than usual demand 8×8 experienced for its services this past summer, the survey uncovered some interesting insights, with respondents identifying their top business concerns as reducing costs, attracting new customers and hiring and affording new employees. Concern over reducing business expenses grew throughout the summer months — 55% of new business customers in August 2011 indicated they were “more concerned” about business expenses this year than last, compared to 39% of new business customers in June 2011. In contrast, the survey also revealed that “managing and keeping up with business growth” was a top concern for nearly one-third of the respondents.

“Generally, summer is not a time when small businesses are focused on their operations but we noticed a different trend in the July to August timeframe and wanted to see what was behind it,” said 8×8 Chairman and CEO Bryan Martin. “Clearly, the economy remains very challenging for small businesses, and they’re realizing the need to scrutinize expenses
and prepare for growth by making the right choices now,” Martin continued. “We’re obviously very pleased that so many of our customers seem confident their business will grow. That’s not only good news for us as their communications provider, but also a refreshingly positive perspective on the future of the economy in general.”

Jimdo QR Codes: Mobile Marketing Made Simple

San Francisco – One of this year’s Internet trends lands at Jimdo today, as the website creator launches simple QR code generation for its users. Starting immediately, the owners of four million Jimdo websites can create custom QR codes for pages on their sites and items in their online store. In doing so, Jimdo puts itself at the forefront of the trend sweeping the world as smartphone usage increases.

82 Million U.S. Smartphone Users
QR codes (quick response codes) work just like barcodes but contain more information. With an app, any smartphone can detect and read them. QR codes usually contain a website URL, email address, or phone number. The small square graphics made of black and white pixels are popping up everywhere – businesses and individuals are using them to connect offline advertisements with online content. It’s not surprising this is trending. After all, in the USA, over 82 million smartphones are in use, while almost 40% of UK mobile subscribers have smartphones[1].

Connecting to Mobile Marketing
“With this QR code feature, we’re giving our users an easy way to get started with mobile marketing,” says Jimdo co-founder Fridtjof Detzner. “Jimdo sites are already automatically mobile-optimized – giving our customers a simple way to make QR codes is the next logical step. Without having to use an external service, Jimdo users can create QR codes for their website, specific pages, or even special products in their online store – whatever they want advertise offline.”

New eVoice® Features Allow You to Stay Connected to Your Business – Even an Ocean Away!

Small Business Owners Now Benefit from International Access, Outbound International Dialing, Call Routing Scheduler and After Hours Greeting

LOS ANGELES, CA eVoice®, A Radically Better Phone Number® and brand of technology leader j2 Global Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: JCOM), today announced new features that provide small business owners with the ability to more efficiently operate their businesses without compromising the freedom to work from anywhere, anytime.

“Small business owners know that one phone call can make or break a sale,” said Mike Pugh, vice president, marketing for j2 Global. “With eVoice, entrepreneurs can be out of the office, or even out of the country, and yet never be out of touch. And when you do choose to unplug — or a dead mobile phone battery chooses for you —    eVoice has your back, answering and routing calls automatically and professionally.”

Key features and benefits of the new eVoice enhancements include:

  • International Access — Small business owners can now forward calls to international phone numbers. A vacation rental owner that wants to spend four months establishing a new market in Europe can now forward calls to their temporary residence overseas. This enhancement also allows small business owners to make calls to any international destination using their eVoice number.*
  • Call Routing Scheduler — the most frequently requested upgrade by eVoice customers, provides busy mobile professionals with the ability to selectively schedule a time to route calls. Forwarding business calls to your home or mobile phone is great for a flexible workplace, but doesn’t allow you any time off when your phone is constantly ringing. This enhancement gives customers the ability to customize when calls forward and when they go straight to voicemail. Spouses of entrepreneurs everywhere will be happy with this one.
  • After Hours Greeting — allows a business to provide a custom message to callers after business hours. Rather than hearing the normal menu options, only to find out no one is available, callers hear a custom “after hours” message before being sent directly to voicemail. This is a great way for small businesses to quickly service customers and an opportunity for them to quickly highlight a key product or service.
