How Small Businesses Can Use Google+

Google +Are you confused about which social networks to use, and which not to use? Almost everyone who loves to “share” things online has a minimum of two accounts in different social networking sites. Most probably, this would be Twitter and Facebook. Twitter is having over 300 million users and Facebook a whopping 800 million. So, who do you think isn’t a member of these sites? Last June, Google offered its own social networking site called Google Plus (Google+). At first, you can only be a member if you are invited by an existing Google+ member. A few months later, more and more people used and signed up for it and Google finally decided that it should be available to everyone 18-years-old and above.

So, what is so special about Google+?
What is so different about this compared to its biggest competitor, Facebook? We all know that Facebook took so many years before it gained its popularity and before it reached the 800 million mark. Google+ just started this year and it already had 40 million users by the end of October. Do you think Google+ can overcome Facebook’s popularity in next few years? Personally, I think it is a big YES.

For people like me, starting my own small business, being a part of this new website is crucial. It has so many features that will let my business grow. And even if some of them are quite similar to its major competitors, there is still something unique about them – and yes, they are on Google+ and they will do the impossible! Here are some of its major features and I will let you know how these features help you in your business.

1.) Circles – Google+ calls its group of friends as “Circles”. Unlike Facebook, there are some statuses or things that you don’t want to share with your family or your business partners. So, Google+ came up with an idea to categorize your contacts. Now, you would be able to say or show anything to the people whom it was for. As for me, I can manage my own postings – if it’s for friends or for my business contacts, or both.

2.) Hangout and stay connected – Most customers who do online transactions always hesitate to buy or to get interested in your product if they don’t see you. So, having this feature, being able to talk to your trusted clients and business partners all at the same time will enable you to interact directly. You can conduct meetings via video conferencing with your employees for any business updates through this remarkable feature.

3.) Interesting Sparks? – You can post anything that interests you, and that includes photos, videos, magazines, websites, products and many things else by using Sparks. This is also your way of showing your products and services to your clients.

4.) Instant IM through Huddle – This feature is exclusive to Web, Android and iOS platforms. It will let you send “huddle messages” to your circle instead of sending each and every one of them individually. Once you have this installed in your mobile device, it will give you notifications of those huddle messages received.

5.) Google+ Pages – The most important feature for my business. This will let me create my own business page and show my products and services that I offer. What is so unique about this is that it has the Hangout feature in it – therefore being able to stay connected directly to your clients, employers, etc. Once people notice your site, they will soon post their inquiries, requests and even order online. This will help people know about your business and sooner you will get noticed. Since Google is the king of Internet marketing, they will help you promote your site in different ways.

6.) Practically everywhere – This can be accessed anywhere. Through a browser, desktop application and through mobile apps. So even if you don’t have your laptop with you, you can still access it through your smartphone.

Terms used by Google+ can be confusing but if you become a constant user, you will get used to it. As far as I’m concerned, I think Google+ has come up with different solutions to the current problems that Facebook and Twitter is having. It came up with several new features that are so unique you won’t want to stop using them. And as for me, the businesswoman, this will enable me to get more sales from people who would share their experiences about my products and services. And with the help of Google+ Pages, my business will gain popularity and the more people know about my products, the more people will buy from me. Happy sharing everyone!

When it comes to promoting businesses, I still think Facebok has all the right tools available. Plus the fact it has millions of members all over the world. But what I like about Google Plus is it’s easier for you to create niches. That should one of the major goals of those in social media, not the number of likes or followers.
