How Cloud Computing Boosts Productivity and Keeps You Secure (Video)

For some small businesses, it is a New Year’s Resolution to utilize the cloud more, or better. In this video from the Small Biz Technology Summit, Dal Gemmell (Symantec) and Raj Sheth (RecruiterBox) explain how cloud technology can help a small business, and how it’s about finding the tools that fit your specific needs. Here are the main takeaways from the video:

– When investing in a cloud computing tool or solution, make sure to ask yourself why you’ll be using this tool? Cloud technology is great, but it also isn’t great if it’s not saving you any time.

– Cloud tools are not that expensive, and many come with a free trial. Small business owners have a tendency to think that many of these tech tools, like cloud computing, must cost a boatload of money.

– Cloud can help with managing the repetitive processes of a small business. Instead of doing these yourself, every single day or week, why not let a cloud computing solution help?

Alison this is a clear post but I suspect the content of the
video will go over the head of many small business owners. The benefits of cost
saving and accessibility were great, but without showing us those and what they
mean in practice –  for many it will just sound like incomprehensible tech speak.

Security is the issue with the cloud. There is no way to know where your information is let alone who has access to it. Be careful.

Thanks Jacko – that’s why it is SO important to ensure one goes with a reliable vendor!

I’d disagree. The cloud can be extremely secure. Even more so than a physical environment if you partner with the right cloud provider.

    Cloud computing is the
process by which a corporation uses remote computing providers connected
via the Internet, rather than internal servers and network drives, to
store and access the corporation’s electronically stored information.

Thanks Dacey – all the clarification helps :)
