As a small and medium sized business, you often have enough to do to keep customers satisfied and money coming in. Having to hunt through the online haystack of business apps for the one that is just right for your organization is an unwelcome chore. Yet good apps cannot be ignored as they have the potential to save you time, money, or both. Being able to move deals along, help customers and develop new revenue opportunities, all on the go, can create a significant competitive advantage. How then can SMBs find the app that suits them, quickly and efficiently?
The new service from Verizon Wireless, “Small Business Advisor”, provides a solution. This online database application helps you rapidly find apps appropriate to your company’s needs and requirements. This is important because these apps, while usually being inexpensive, are typically designed for one particular task, like only tracking customer order delivery or just managing job applicants. Hoping to find a “one size fits all” app or trying to sift through each app’s specifications manually would be too optimistic. The Small Business Advisor, on the other hand, analyzes your requirements first and then hands you a selection of suitable candidate apps.
As a free service, it uses a wizard to query you quickly and efficiently about your business sector and mobile app needs. The 3-step procedure is simple, with intuitive graphics to click on for making choices. The answer comes back in a trice, with a digest of the most suitable apps that can be downloaded or bought. As an example, plugging in choices to be a 50-99 person financial services company using iPhones and having a need for account management and mobile office on the go immediately pointed us to potential finance manager, mobile banker and document editing and synching apps.
What does Verizon get out of it? More use of its wireless network, but also more satisfied customers who get more out of their wireless connections and their business. To quote executive director Michael Schaefer of Wireless Business Solutions, Verizon Wireless: “The Small Business Advisor is a key part of our SMB approach, helping our customers better determine the right applications for their business and get the most from their mobile devices.”
Small Business Advisor is not the first service to help businesses find apps. Other aggregators already provide guidance for enterprises. Getapp.com for instance has an app finder, although aimed at a broader market and thus more generic than Verizon Wireless’s Small Business Advisor. Mobile apps are also becoming available for specific software solutions or services, such as the emailing platform from Constant Contact with apps that let customers launch and monitor their email campaigns directly from their mobiles. Verizon Wireless’s service, however, has an advantage in being tailored to the SMB mobile app market needs, with an agreeably slick interface to boot.
