Did you know that your simple, “Welcome to my awesome company” email is opened and read 4 times more and has at least 5 times higher CTR (Click through Rate) and an incredible 8 times more revenue per email than typical promotional emails?
Email Marketing Reports points to a recent study by Experian CheetahMail that revealed these numbers. Tafford.com – a scrubs and uniforms retailer from Montgomery, USA — admits that post-purchase emails (like surveys) deliver 20% more revenue per email from than their regular emails.
Transactional emails are sent to the users’ inbox after the users take an action on a website such as confirmation of a user signing up for a newsletter, a “thank you” email after a purchase, a reminder for subscription renewal, etc. As EmailStatsCenter points out, a whopping 75% of customers open and read transactional emails more frequently than usual emails. Further, at least 57% of consumers view promotional messages in transactional emails positively (as long as messages are relevant), according to a Marketing Sherpa Ecommerce Benchmark Guide.
Emails are mainstream breadwinners. Here are a few updates from leading email providers that can benefit small businesses:
Mailchimp’s transactional emails & Twitter features
Mailchimp introduced transactional emails in Feb 2011 which was found to be limiting. As a result, Mailchimp launched Mandrill, which is a one-to-one transactional email engine. There are simple WordPress and Joomla Pluginsfor non-techy users and, of course, there’s a Mandrill API (along with support documentation) for tech heads.
Mailchimp also has brand new email templates that you can now use for your campaigns. It also allows you to add separate twitter accounts to different lists .Tweet Trends, another MailChimp feature, is particularly intriguing for businesses since it gives you insights about those you follow. Ben, on a Mailchimp Blog post, says it best:
“You’d know what kind of company you are in”
“Read what they read. Shop where they shop. With Tweet Trends, you can follow who they follow.”
