FileMaker Pro 8.5 - The POWER of the 'Net In Your Database

Databases have been around for a long time, helping small businesses keep track of their data and aiding their employees, customers and partners inputting information. For many years, desktop databases such as FileMaker Pro and Microsoft Access have been bound to data residing on local networks. Today FileMaker Pro breaks that mold and releases FileMaker Pro 8.5 which features Live Web On Demand - a VERY cool and useful feature.
Maybe you are putting together a database and you want one of the forms to show live data from an online source - maybe a street map, shipping status, keyword result from a search engine...any source that you can pull from a web site. FileMaker makes this possible.
For example, maybe you want your database to be able to show a map for each customer address showed. You could link your address field(s) into Google, Yahoo, MSN or Mapquest mapping service and dynamically display the map for each customer record.
FileMaker Pro 8.5 also includes ready-to-use built-in links for many popular web sites, including Wikipedia and others so that users can add web sites within their FileMaker Pro 8.5 records.
"Delivering web data on demand continues our tradition of setting new standards in the database market," said Dominique Goupil, president, FileMaker, Inc. "With the new Web Viewer in FileMaker Pro 8.5, we are leading the way users will harness Web data. And we expect to reignite the workgroup database category with this breakthrough benefit."
Available exclusively within FileMaker Pro 8.5, FileMaker also introduces the FileMaker Learning Center, a convenient way for users of all levels to learn FileMaker at their own pace. The FileMaker Learning Center includes free video tutorials, how-to guides and many other resources.
FileMaker Pro 8.5 also offers powerful new object functions and scripting capabilities, features that carry on the company's tradition of providing
greater productivity for developers and more intuitive solutions for users.
If you've heard a lot about "Web 2.0" but wondered if it applied to your desktop database - the answer is YES.
