William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association (Search Engine Strategies Coverage)
By Stephanie Cockerl, nextSteph, for Smallbiztechnology.com

At SES-NY, I had a chance to stop by the Web Marketing Association's booth. William Rice, President and I chatted about the upcoming Web Awards and the significance of it to small businesses.
The Web Awards is a volunteer organization that has been around for 11 years. The WMA also has the IAC (Interactive) Web Award, (www.iacaward.org), which has been around for 6 years.
William noted that winning the award adds "Ă–instant credibility for businesses." Applying for the award entails registering on the website and paying the entry fee, $195 for all categories, except the non-profit category which is $99. "Its more cost effective that buying a TV ad." He suggested that the entry fee be allocated from PR budget due to the potential of it of creating PR opportunities.
An independent 3rd party will review the nominated websites. Regardless of whether or not you win or lose, their feedback provides valuable information that businesses can use.
"Its not about how big the company or website is..."
Another incentive for small businesses to enter is that PRWeb (www.prweb.com) is offering free distribution to winners of the "Best of Industry" categories.
The deadline to submit nominations for the Web Award is May 31st 2007.
