The original Resident Evil 3 is set to launch on GOG on September 25, 2024. The release follows the arrival of the original Resident Evil 2 on the platform. Capcom stated, “Capcom’s Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide.
Now, it’s time to complete the trilogy. Just like with Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, we made sure GOG’s version of the third entry in the series is the best it can be.
Resident Evil 3 release details
You can expect a variety of quality-of-life improvements, compatibility with modern systems, full modern controller support, and even more.”
Resident Evil 3 on GOG offers full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11, six localizations of the game, Mercenaries Mode, improved DirectX game renderer, new rendering options, improved graphics engine initialization and restart, improved video subtitles, improved options dialog, issue-less task switching, improved mouse cursor visibility, and full support for modern controllers. Plans to release all three original Resident Evil games were announced back in June, with the release of Resident Evil 3 completing the venture. Picking up the original Resident Evil 4 and onwards on PC isn’t nearly as complicated as the first three games, which were long absent on the platform, making further announcements on this front unlikely.
Capcom has been otherwise occupied with remaking these games, starting with the original and progressing to include other fan-favorite entries. While the first Resident Evil received a remake in 2002, it hasn’t been revisited in the same way as the subsequent entries in over two decades.
