Terry Bogard, the legendary character from SNK’s Fatal Fury series, has made his debut in Street Fighter 6 as the first guest character in the franchise’s history. Capcom has gone above and beyond to honor SNK’s legacy by including a series of Easter eggs and references in Terry’s gameplay. Players quickly discovered that Terry’s Power Geyser Super move has a special addition.
By performing a specific input, players can change the Power Geyser’s effect to mirror its original form from the NeoGeo days. This secret input serves as a nostalgic nod to old-school fans. Director Takayuki Nakayama expressed his surprise at how quickly players uncovered this secret, mentioning he had planned to reveal it at the Tokyo Game Show 2024.
He also noted that Terry’s move set houses another subtle reference, with his voice clip changing to sound like the original Fatal Fury game when he performs an Overdrive Power Wave that triggers a burnout. Beyond gameplay, these references extend to Terry’s animation and poses. His perfect win pose in Street Fighter 6 replicates his iconic hat toss from Fatal Fury, and in his second outfit, he even tosses his jacket.
His continue screen animation in Arcade Mode also reminisces the opening from Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.
Terry’s legacy in Street Fighter 6
Capcom even included a surprising homage to the NeoGeo CD loading screen within the World Tour mode, showcasing the deep respect the developers have for SNK’s heritage.
The reverence given to Terry is extensive and demonstrates the significance of this crossover to the developers. With so much attention to detail, fans can only imagine how this dedication might transfer into a potential new Capcom vs. SNK title in the future.
Terry is available now across all three Street Fighter 6 game modes, including World Tour, Fighting Ground, and Battle Hub. Players can learn his moves, strengthen their bond with him, and showcase their skills against friends, family, and foes globally. Alongside Terry’s release, Capcom has introduced two new training features: V-Rival and Replay Review.
V-Rival allows players to fight against an AI opponent generated by play data from real-ranked matches, while Replay Review lets players take control of either player during any moment of an Online/Offline Replay playback. Additional updates include new content such as winning illustrations from the Street Fighter Art Contest, comic book-style New Challenger art, stamps and effects for Photo mode, and new avatar costumes in the Hub Goods Shop. Street Fighter 6 has sold more than four million units since its launch, representing the next evolution of the series with unique fighting game innovations and content spread across three brand new game modes.
